Manu Taylor

Manu has worked in the New Zealand music and media industries for over 30 years. After starting out in music retail, merchandising and indie record label ownership, in the 80s/early 90s he progressed into retail and promotions management with major labels WEA and Polygram Records. After finishing up at Polygram in 1997, he was invited to join hip-hop/RnB radio station Mai FM as their Programme Director. At Mai FM, Manu handled all on-air talent and the overall on-air sound. Between 1997 and 2008, he helped grow Mai FM into a commercial Auckland institution, regularly dominating rating charts across the full radio spectrum. In 2008, Manu shifted roles to become the Head of Radio and then Station Manager on Auckland’s 95bFM. At 95bFM, he handled the overall operation of the station. Looking after the on-air sound and talent, oversaw the marketing direction, and used his experience to help maintain the station’s status as a crucial new artist breaker and media talent incubator. Manu was also heavily involved in event management and promotion, media sales, and sponsorship relationship management. 95bFM call themselves “The Originator” and he took that role seriously. Manu finished up at 95bFM early 2015. Beyond the positions at Mai FM and 95bFM, Manu has spent stints working as a music reviewer with Radio New Zealand and Radio Live. He also is a video, digital and audio producer, providing video production services, online digital content, and music for television commercials to advertising agencies when required. Manu has managed respected post punk band Die!Die!Die!. They continuously tour the world, with a minimum of two European and American visits a year. More recently, he has been managing Wellington musician Eddie Johnston, better known as Lontalius or Race Banyon and the release of his work around the world. Plus managing Ryan ENZED, Seth Haapu, Emily Edrosa and developing artists Night Pilot, FIN, Jasper Hawkins and Levine Lale (VI-NE).
